“What is it about Lubitz’s voice that makes it so incredibly captivating? Her timbre is otherworldly; hopeful and vulnerable, yet potent.”
- Beat Magazine
After more than a decade releasing albums and touring with award-winning indie-folk pioneers Tinpan Orange, Emily Lubitz has stepped out on her own. Her debut album, ‘Two Black Horses’ will released in July 2025.
Lubitz is a veteran of the scene, having performed on some of the world’s biggest stages and premiere international festivals, including Winnipeg Folk Festival (CAN), Calgary Folk Music Festival (CAN), Haldern Pop (GER), Laneway Festival (AUS), WOMAD (AUS), Woodford Music Festival (AUS) and many more. Tinpan Orange won Triple J unearthed in 2013, opening the gates to wide radio attention and a fast growing fan base. She appeared on SBS’s Rockwiz, dueting with Paul Dempsey, and sang the viral YouTube sensation, Dumb Ways to Die. She has collaborated with the likes of Paul Kelly, Martha Wainwright, Emma Donovan and Mama Kin, and yet her solo work is imbued with the raw energy of a breakthrough artist.
Emily’s new record, Two Black Horses sounds like an old Hollywood film, starring Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and Phoebe Bridgers, who go on holidays together and talk about their feelings. She wrote the album for her family. It covers themes of forbidden love, immigration, death, loss and growing older with love and defiance. Produced by Emily’s husband and long-time collaborator, Harry James Angus, Two Black Horses is a deeply personal collection of songs that speaks to heartache, heritage and hope.
Emily’s ‘Two Black Horses’ album launch tour is happening from July–September, so grab your tickets and come along.
